1.110.0 Date formats with names

August 17, 2026

This is an older version. It is no longer maintained; the current version 1.147.0 is recommended.

This release teaches your dates to speak. Templates, journals and queries can now render a date with month and weekday names, such as "Monday, 17 August 2026", plus day and month without a leading zero. And so that plain text may live inside a format string, square brackets keep it literal.

  • The format tokens MMMM and MMM produce the month name in long and short form, EEEE and EEE the weekday name. In templates and journal entries the names follow your interface language; journal entries created retroactively keep showing the date of their period, not today's.
  • The new tokens d and M write day and month as single digits where that reads better: 05.03. becomes 5.3. Together with the names this yields natural headings like "Thursday, 5 March 2026".
  • Square brackets keep text literal: in "EEEE[, the] d MMMM yyyy" the word "the" stays untouched even though d and M are now tokens of their own. Format strings may carry whole phrases without single letters being replaced.
