1.126.0 Documents without a size limit
September 2, 2026
This is an older version. It is no longer maintained; the current version 1.147.0 is recommended.
Very large documents eventually became hard to edit smoothly. This version takes the effect out of document size without imposing a limit on you: when a document grows too large, the application splits it into several files when saving and joins them back into one when opening. In the tab you work as always.
- When a document exceeds about one megabyte on saving, the application spreads it across several files in the same folder. On opening you see one continuous text again: undo runs across the boundaries, search finds the document as a whole, and renaming takes all parts along. Cuts are made only before a heading of the top two levels, so that no table, list or code block is ever torn apart. If no such heading exists, the document stays undivided and you are told why. Every part file is an ordinary Markdown file, readable without the application.
- Before a document is split for the first time, the application says so and leaves you the choice: split it, or leave the file untouched and only read it in this tab. Further parts are added silently later, because the decision has been made. If automatic saving runs in the background, nothing is ever split unasked — the question comes when you save yourself.
- Via “File → More file functions → Rejoin parts…” the parts become a single file again. This only happens on your explicit request, never on its own. If the result is larger than the threshold, the application points out beforehand that the next save would split it again.
- If one of the files was deleted or moved outside the application, or has not been synchronised yet, the document opens read only and names the missing place. Nothing is saved, because writing from the incomplete text would lose the missing part for good. Put the file back and the document is complete and writable again the next time you open it — without you having to reset anything.
- Renaming a split document in the file manager used to make it impossible to open at all. Now the application recognises that the opened file is itself the beginning of the document, and opens it.
